CFCV Fundraiser for a Friend

Debbie Rominger from CrossFit Initiative in Reno has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. We will be having a benefit Wod on Saturday April 12th at 10:00 to raise money for her treatment. All participants at the event should wear purple as a show of support. We are hoping that each participant will donate at least $20.00 to join in the Wod. The following is info regarding the WOD and information on Debbie:

Burpees and Jerks For Debbie
As you may have heard, Debbie, a long time friend and trainer of CFI was diagnosed with cancer after a year of feeling ill. When we found out a couple weeks ago, we were hopeful that chemo could shrink the sarcoma/tumor that had attached to her liver enough for surgeons to remove it. On Tuesday, we found out that this 15# tumor had grown 10 cm in two weeks. Our hearts broke and our hopes of traditional treatment were smashed. Insurance is dragging their feet and it seems Deb’s best options are not covered under insurance. The clock is literally ticking for Debbie. This is a woman who has tirelessly supported any and all causes brought to the attention of and by the CrossFit community. If you don’t have the pleasure of knowing her well, we can say that she is a gem of a human being. Please, please help her by supporting this Online Tournament. All monies collected, including the transaction fees collected by the ABoxAbove Tournament team, will go directly into her paypal account to help pay for all the specialist visits and travel involved.
How can you help?
Please promote this tournament to your members. The two-fold workout can be done any time. The workout was designed specifically with Debbie in mind. She loves burpees and the Olympic lifts. If the athlete would like his/her score posted on the global leaderboard, he/she just needs to e-mail [email protected] the results. CFI will be hosting a Friday Night Challenge and potluck on Friday, the 4th to do the WOD as a group. We will all be wearing purple in support of Debbie. If you could hold a similar event at your box and take a group picture of the purple crowd, we’d love to get it up on the website that is currently being built for Debbie.
Also, if you can please spread the word to other boxes or garage gyms outside our local area, we would really appreciate it!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

In addition to the WOD on April 12th there will be a donation jar on the desk that we will make sure gets passed on to Debbie.
